The San Marco apartment is on the second floor of a beautiful, ancient palazzo
in Venice. It is located between the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's (less than 1,000
ft. from Saint Mark's Square) in a busy area of the very center of Venice. The
palace dates back to the fourteenth century and was completely restored in 1984-85
by the world-famous Italian architect Gae Aulenti. The street is lined with designer
shops with glamorous window displays. Sightseeing is at hand in every direction
making it simple to return home occasionally to rest before stepping out again.
A wide variety of fine restaurants are within easy walking distance of 5 minutes
or less. Enter the palazzo through the elegant entryway, where
there is a doorman and security booth. Walk up the massive red-carpeted marble
stairs or take the lift, if you prefer. This is a corner apartment on the second
and third floors. It gives the impression, with its high ceilings, windows and
mirrors, of soaring space and gleaming elegance in a compact space.
The
furnishings are eclectic with sleek modernity mixed with priceless antiques. On
the main floor, there are a living/dining room with TV, a tiny kitchenette, washing
machine and a bathroom with shower and bidet. On the upper floor, there are two
loft bedrooms, one with a single bed and one with a large double bed. The second
bathroom is accessed from the single-bedded loft room. There is an additional
roll-away bed downstiars, but this apartment is best for a couple or a family
where sleeping privacy is not required. This is a bustling area and it is very
important that this apartment is air-conditioned, so you can keep the windows
closed in the warmer months to help protect you from noise at night.
