The northeast of Italy, home to the Veneto region, is a joy to visit both for
its inviting towns and for its variety of landscapes. Though Venice perhaps needs
little introduction, Padova, Verona and Vicenza are less well known and well worth
exploring. Padova (Padua), just twelve kilometers from La Serra, is home to a
number of important works of art including a fresco cycle by Giotto and a series
of bronze reliefs and other works by Donatello. Vicenza, a short drive to the
northwest, is the city where the influential architect Andrea Palladio launched
his remarkable career, and many villas and civic buildings of Vicenza and its
environs reflect his legacy. Nearby Verona, best known as the setting for
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, does not disappoint in terms of romantic appeal.
Rich in art and interesting monuments, Verona is also a festive city, hosting
Italy's biggest wine fair each April as well as an opera festival every summer
in its extraordinary outdoor Arena. For a taste of nature, the beaches of the
Adriatic coast lie a short drive to the east, while Europe's most breathtaking
mountains, the Dolomites, offer skiing and spectacular sightseeing a couple of
hours to the north. For visitors who enjoy sports, swimming, tennis and golf are
all available within a few kilometers of La Serra. La Serra is a truly unique,
air-conditioned apartment located on the estate of a beautiful sixteenth century
residence, the Villa Selvatico. The independent building housing La Serra once
served as the villa's limonaia, where the lemon trees were tended. The front edifice
of the building is largely composed of windows, allowing for well-lit interiors
and a pleasing view of the property. La Serra's living room includes a complete
kitchenette in one corner and a sunny dining area, and is furnished with a double
sleeper sofa.
The apartment also has one twin/double bedroom and a bathroom
with shower. Furnishings are cheery and comfortable. A laundry facility with washer
is available on the premises (use is shared with guests of two other apartments).
Seasonable fruits and vegetables can be bought on the estate.
