Il Portico apartment, a newly restored independent apartment in a 16th century villa, is located on
an estate 12 km (8 mi.) outside of Padua (Padova), where you will discover Giotto's
Cappella, St. Antonio's Basillica, and the third oldest university in Europe.
The Veneto is remarkable for its beauty, cuisine, art, Palladian villas, and historical
cities. Living just outside Padova, you will be less than ½ hour from Venice and
Vicenza and less than an hour from Treviso and Verona. In addition, there are
many other ancient walled-towns to explore. The land surrounding the villa is
flat as it approaches the snow-capped mountains to the north. The famous ski resort,
Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the Dolomite Mountains, is 100 miles away. There are swimming
beaches along the Adriatic coast, at Jesolo and Sottomarina (north and south of
Venice, respectively). You can drive to the ocean at Chioggia in about 30 minutes
to buy fresh fish. Less than 2 miles from your apartment, you will find both tennis
courts and a swimming pool, and 15 miles away there is a golf course. Nearby with
its spectacular villas is the Brenta Riviera, which can be explored by boat, by
car, on foot or by bicycle.
Il Portico is an air-conditioned, ground-floor
apartment (40 sq meters), consisting of two cheerful rooms, one a bedroom with
twin beds (which can be made up together or separately), and the other a living
room with a double sofa-bed, a wardrobe, color TV, table with 4 chairs and modern
kitchenette with small refrigerator, oven, and 3-burner gas stove. The large windows
look out on the villa's lovely private garden planted with shade trees. The modern
bathroom, which is bright and clean with a shower, bidet, WC and sink, is accessed
from the hall. Ceilings are high and the floor is tiled with terra cotta. Careful
attention has been paid to every detail, so that you will feel welcome and comfortable.
When you are not out and about, you can relax in the villa's garden, or rent bicycles
to explore the surrounding area. In the nearby village, 1 km away, you will find
restaurants, a grocery, a pharmacy, a post office, and a variety of other shops.
The bus to Padova stops in the village, and from Padova, there is a train to Venice
and the other major historical cities. If you prefer to drive, there are excellent
autostrade.
