Villa Santa Fina sits serenely atop a hill just ten minutes from the much loved
medieval town of San Gimignano, which was declared by UNESCO to be a vital part
of the world's architectural heritage. The 360 degrees of views from Santa Fina's
windows and gardens naturally include San Gimignano's unique skyline of towers.
This is a wonderful location for an Italian sojourn. In addition to its architectural
and artistic beauties, San Gimignano is known for its Vernaccia, its distinctive
white wine, and for the cultivation of wonderful organic saffron. Day trips are
easily planned to nearby Volterra to shop for alabaster crafts, to Siena to see
one of the most beautiful town squares in Italy, to Florence, or, heading in another
direction, to explore the lesser known hill towns of southeastern Tuscany, such
as Pienza, Cetona and Cortona. Though the hamlet itself is tiny and has no shops,
San Gimignano and nearby Poggibonsi are convenient for goods and services.
Like San Gimignano, Santa Fina is an architectural gem. Built, rebuilt
and restored over the centuries upon original Etruscan ruins, the present structure
is a lovely castle encircled by a sleepy Tuscan hamlet. The 30 acres of surrounding
property include a terraced garden with a pool and large pergola for outdoor dining,
an olive grove, and a wooded area ideal for nature walks. Staff is on hand for
maintenance of the pool and garden. Olive oil and saffron are cultivated on-site
and available for purchase. Also in the vicinity of the villa guests will find
tennis, golf, fishing, and horseback riding.
The friendly
owner of Villa Santa Fina has put much tender loving care into its restoration
and décor and is eager to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Wood-beamed
ceilings, arcades and cotto-tiled floors are found throughout, and furnishings
include many traditional pieces, giving the residence rustic air.
On the ground floor is a cozy rustic living room with satellite TV, a beautiful
dining room with a fireplace, a fully-equipped kitchen, a small study with Internet
connection, a bathroom with shower, and the first of six bedrooms,
with joinable twin beds and a handicapped-accessible en suite bathroom with tub.
Four additional bedrooms are found on the second floor: three queens and a twin,
each with its own en suite bathroom (2 with tubs; 2 with stall showers).
On the villa's third floor is a queen-bedded suite with its own sitting/dining
room with fireplace, kitchenette, and bathroom with tub and separate shower.
The villa is centrally heated. All bedrooms are air conditioned
and have window screens.
Children under 12 are welcome
with the following restrictions: No more than 2 children are allowed, and the
owner must be notified in advance of the number of children. Rooms for the children
will be chosen by the owner. An additional security deposit will be required for
