The Cottage	Situated on the southern slopes of Mount Cetona, San Casciano dei Bagni owes its popularity to its strategic position and its 42 thermal hot springs, famous for their therapeutic properties. This lovely village, a cluster of medieval buildings, rises from the countryside of ancient oaks, chestnuts and pines. Narrow, picturesque streets surround the church and bell tower, and although the setting is rural, the town itself is surprisingly sophisticated, with lovely shops, several wonderful restaurants, and one of our favorite coffee bars. Beyond the village, the pristine countryside is ideal for hiking, biking or strolling. This is a beautiful region, still relatively undiscovered by tourists. The location, near the border of Umbria, is perfect for exploring the many enchanting hill towns of Umbria and southern Tuscany. Visit Montalcino, Montepulciano, Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto, or leave your car in Chiusi and travel by train to Rome or Florence in just over an hour. Arrange for health and beauty treatments at the renowned Fonteverde Spa, one of Europe’s finest. Casale della Nila is located just outside of town, directly across the road from the Fonteverde Spa. The villa has been recently renovated, with a keen eye to beauty and comfort. Terracotta floors and beamed ceilings accent its elegant interior. Soothing colors, carefully chosen furnishings and many lovely details complement the pristine restoration. The house is built on two levels, with a second entrance leading directly to the second floor. Two bedrooms (a double and a single) are located on the ground floor, and three double bedrooms are located upstairs. All of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms. Outside are lovely gardens (including a fragrant garden), BBQ, and a beautiful swimming pool (6 x 12 meters) that is finished in a natural color to blend in with the landscape. The covered loggia is perfect for al fresco dining and can be used even on rainy days. Amenities include satellite TV, stereo, washer & dryer, fax and computer with medium-speed internet connection. The owner is a professional chef who operates a lovely restaurant down the road. With a day’s notice, she can prepare a poolside lunch or an elegant supper. She can also arrange cooking classes (arrangements should be made at the time of booking). We have dined at her restaurant and can vouch for her culinary skills.
