The countryside around Lucca offers some truly exceptional vacation residences. Villa Il Nobile is one such residence. Crowned by a tower and flanked by an exemplary Italian garden, Il Nobile is set amidst the region's gently rolling hills with their patchwork of olive groves and chestnut woods. The beautiful Garfagnana Mountains lie 30 min. north, the coast is 30 min. west, and Florence is 50 min. east. Highlights include the resort towns of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi and a unique string of cliff-side fishing villages known as the Cinqueterre less than an hour away, and Portofino, just another 30 min. up the coast. Closer to home, Lucca (7 km) is a charming town and is home to many lovely shops, museums and restaurants. As the birthplace of Puccini, it offers a remarkable selection of concerts and operas. There is an outstanding antique market the last weekend each month. A little country restaurant is a five-minute walk from the villa, and another restaurant is just ten minutes' walk. Villa Il Nobile is an impressive 18th century villa of yellow stucco with red tile roofs. Surrounded by lovely gardens, its elegant interiors have been furnished and decorated with the luxury and comfort in mind. The ground-floor living room's high, intricately molded ceilings, exquisite furnishings and oriental rugs set a standard of fine taste that is maintained throughout the house. Ground floor:

Total bedrooms: 3 doubles, 2 twins, 3 singles Jacuzzi showers are stall showers with massage heads, but no bathtubs. A lower level provides a utility room with two washing machines, a wine cellar and a Ping Pong table. There are furnished terraces outdoors for dining al fresco and an outdoor wood pizza oven, and the owners have recently added a lovely pool (6 x 12 m.) with sun chairs and umbrellas.
