These apartments are located in a historic building on the Piazza Santo Spirito, a lively square
named for its famous church. The Oltrarno is the
name given to the area of Florence occupying the "other" side of the city's famous
river. Known for its artists' studios, the neighborhood
is also home to wonderful trattorias and restaurants.
The piazza bustles with activity, but a few well-placed
shaded benches surrounding a lovely fountain at the square's center provide a nice spot to sit and relax. A food market is held here daily, and once a month there is an antiques market. Many of the favorite
spots of the Oltrarno are within easy walking distance, including the Pitti Palace and its Boboli Gardens. The Ponte Vecchio is easily reached,
lined with shops of gold and leading to the Piazza della Signoria and many other splendors of Renaissance
Florence.
The two apartments are comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated,
including some antique pieces and interesting prints. Some rooms in each have
beamed ceilings and cotto floors. Both are centrally heated and have TVs.
Santo
Spirito 1 (sleeps 4) is located on the ground and sub-level floors of the building. From the foyer, with a Victorian wicker sitting area, a hallway leads to a fully
equipped kitchen (with dishwasher), breakfast room, small private patio and
utility room with washing machine. Also on the ground floor is a queen bedroom with a portable air-conditioner ("penguino)" and a large bathroom with
Jacuzzi tub/shower. A wooden staircase leads to the sub-level where there is a
large living/dining room, a second queen bedroom, a bathroom with shower, and
a large storage closet.
Santo Spirito 2 (sleeps 2) is located on the building's
second floor (a walk-up of 10 steps). There is a spacious, comfortably furnished
living room and an independent dining room overlooking the piazza. Off the living
room is a semi-open kitchenette, with a view of the rooftops of the quarter. There
is a king bedroom with a view of the piazza, and an en suite bathroom with shower.
Windows overlooking the piazza are double-glazed to minimize noise.
