Villa Katerina is a splendid villa in an ideal location — just south of Florence in the Chianti hills. This stately villa is set on a large estate surrounded by olive groves and hills. In the distance, you can see the Duomo of Florence.

Play golf at Ugolino, a ten-minute drive from the villa. A bus stop is five minutes away at Grassina on the famous Chiantigiana (Route 222), giving easy access by bus or by car to Siena (24 miles) in one direction and Florence (7 miles) in the other. Visit Pisa and the beaches resorts of Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio (50 miles). Shop in open-air village markets, explore the hill towns of Tuscany, and taste the wines of the famous Chianti Classico vineyards. A small village, San Polo, is just two kilometers from the villa, and guests will enjoy dining at the nearby restaurant, Paglietta.

Villa Katerina (22,000 sq. ft.) was originally built on an ancient Etruscan site and then added onto over the centuries. The owners live in one wing and rent out another magnificent (and private) wing of the villa (8,000 sq. ft.). All of the rooms have high ceilings and are beautifully furnished with antiques and priceless original art from the family. The walls and ceilings are beautifully painted, reflecting the exquisite and subtle taste of the artist-owner. Almost every room has a fireplace, including the bedrooms upstairs.

Part of the formal garden (10,000 sq. ft.) is for guests, with a beautiful infinity pool (10.5 x 11.5 mt; depth 1.5 mt.— diving not permitted). A large furnished loggia offers splendid views over the hills on the third floor. There are window screens and fans in all of the bedrooms.

Villa Katerina's property is well respected for the wines made on the estate, and the villa has its own wine cellar, where you can purchase the estate wines or other labels. The English-speaking owner, who lives next door, will be available in case of any problems during your stay, and one of the staff lives on site.
