La Ricolette is an exceptionally lovely villa situated a mile outside Provence's famous ochre village of Roussillon. It is a great location for those who wish to explore the region's many villages: Gordes, Menerbes, Bonnieux, Cavaillon, and St Remy de Provence are all within easy range for daytrips. Farmers' markets and wonderful restaurants are scattered all about the area. The Luberon is known for its wonderful nature preserves, with many marked walking trails. The famous antique market of L'Isle Sur La Sorge is just a 20-minute drive, and the delightful museums at Fontaine de Vaucluse are also easily reached. Avignon is reached in 30 minutes by car. Surrounding La Ricolette are two acres of private land: guests can stroll in a lavender field or rose garden or enjoy the pool and petanque court. A covered veranda provides the perfect spot for dining out of doors while enjoying ravishing views of Roussillon. The house was constructed recently using traditional craftsmanship techniques for the floors and walls. It is sumptuously decorated, yet with a comfortable, colorful rustic appeal. The large inviting living room has a grand stone fireplace, comfortable seating, satellite TV, and a small stereo with CD player. The adjacent dining room has a farm table that seats up to eight guests. The modern kitchen has a traditional cooking fireplace and is equipped with a dishwasher and microwave. Just off the kitchen is a laundry room with washer and dryer, and a guest bathroom. The living room, dining room, and kitchen all have French doors opening onto the veranda. There are two bedrooms at La Ricolette, each with its own en suite bath. The spacious master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and a bathroom with shower over tub. The second bedroom is reached via a small sitting room or office and has two twin beds and a bathroom with a glass stall shower. Although it is slightly smaller than the master bedroom, it is equally charming. A flagstone terrace runs the length of the house and can be accessed from all rooms but the office and second bedroom. The terrace is furnished with a wrought-iron table for six, a stone BBQ, and a covered trellis for shade. A nearby hammock provides a quiet place to relax among the lavender bushes. Steps lead past rose gardens to the pool (4 x 9 m). |
